Known as the most thrilling sporting experience after the Olympics, the Football World Cup is going to cast its fever over sports fans once again as it begins in Qatar on November 20. The name FIFA derives its origin from the abbreviated form of the international body governing football, which is called-Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
Starting in 1934, the tournament ran continuously till 1938 before the World War arrived. However, post the end of the second World War, it was restarted again in 1950 and ever since has continued unabated. Occurring every four years, the tournament has been able to pull in fans from all across the world, even from the places whose teams have never even played in the World Cup

Qatar World Cup 2022
The latest edition of the tournament also called Qatar 2022 will be the first-ever tournament to be hosted in West Asia and only the second one to be hosted in Asia after Japan and South Korea joined hands to host the 2002 edition of the tournament. The voting for the hosting rights of the tournament began in 2009 and Qatar beat the United States, South Korea, Australia, and Japan to get the chance to host the World Cup.
A total of 32 teams are taking part in the tournament. There are a total of eight groups and each group has four teams. The top two teams from each group will move to the next round called the Round of 16 where the higher-ranked team from one group plays the lower-ranked team from another. Eventually, eight teams will be left for the quarterfinal.
The tournament begins on November 20, 2022, with hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador in a Group A encounter. The quarterfinals will begin on December 09, 2022, while the semi-finals will be played on December 14 and 15 with the third-place match taking place on December 17 and the final on December 18.
