Axar Patel is an Indian all-rounder. He bats left-handed and is a left-arm orthodox bowler. He started his first-class career against Delhi while playing for Gujarat. In early 2014, he was named the BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the year for the 2012-13 season. In the seventh season of Indian Premier League (IPL), he was named the emerging player of the tournament.

 

ODI career

 

Axar Patel made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium on June 15, 2014. In 38 matches played so far, Patel has taken 45 wickets at an average of 31.31 and an economy rate of 4.43. He was also part of India’s 2015 World Cup squad. On 20 June 2016, he moved to the 13th place in ICC ODI rankings -- just three places behind India's highest-ranked bowler Ravichandran Ashwin -- after taking three wickets against Zimbabwe. But he never had a consistent run in the playing 11.

 

IPL career

 

Axar Patel was signed by the Mumbai Indians franchise in 2013, but he did not get to play even a single match that season. Later, in 2014, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on April 18, 2014. He had an impressive run for KXIP in 2014, with 17 wickets under the belt. He was named the emerging player that year. In the IPL 2019 auction, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 5 crore. Patel played five seasons for Kings XI Punjab, featuring in 68 matches and picking up 61 wickets at an average of 28.93, with one five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick. In his 82 IPL matches so far, Patel has scored 796 runs at an average of 18.95 and a strike rate of 126.34. In the bowling department, he has taken 71 wickets at an average of 29.98 and an economy rate of 7.45, with a 4-wicket haul.

 

T20I career

 

Axar Patel made his T20 International (T20I) debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on July 17, 2015. In 11 matches so far, he has taken 9 wickets at an economy rate of 6.79. While batting, he has scored 68 runs at a strike rate of 125.93.
