A famous Punjabi comedian and actor, Bhagwant Mann contested on an AAP ticket in general elections 2014 and became a Lok Sabha MP. He rode on a so-called ‘AAP wave’ after the Jan Lokpal campaign preceding the 2014 elections and won from Sangrur with a margin of over 200,000 votes. He was one of the four AAP MPs elected from Punjab in those elections.
He became better known in Parliament for his sense of humour, which he deployed even in his parliamentary interventions in different debates. One of the AAP's most popular campaigners in Punjab today, Mann had earlier also contested for the Lehragaga Assembly seat in 2012 on a People's Party of Punjab ticket. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bhagwant Mann is once again contesting from the Sangrur constituency.
