Christopher Henry Gayle (Chris Gayle) is a Jamaican cricketer who plays International cricket for Windies. He bats left-handed and occasionally bowls right-arm off-spin. He is the first batsman to score a triple century in Test cricket, double hundred in ODIs and a ton in T20 Internationals (T20). He plays domestic cricket for Jamaica and represents the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL). He crowned himself a ‘Universe Boss’ by smashing a century in IPL 2018.
Chris Gayle made his One Day International (ODI) debut against India in Toronto on September 11, 1999. In 288 matches played so far, he has scored 10,151 runs at an average of 38.02 and a strike rate of 87.14, with 25 centuries and 51 fifties. His highest individual score is 215 runs. In February 2019, Gayle announced that he woudl retire from ODIs after ICC World Cup 2019. Later the same month, in a series against England, Gayle scored his 10,000th run and his 25th century in ODIs. He is the only Windies batsman other than Brian Lara to amass 10,000 runs in ODIs.
He made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the 2009 season. In later editions, he single-handedly won many matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In the 2012 season, he piled up a mammoth total of 733 runs at a strike rate of 160. The next year, he took the T20 world by storm with a knock of 175 against Pune Warriors India. In 125 matches played so far, he has scored 4,484 runs at an average of 41.13 and a strike rate of 151.02, with six centuries and 28 fifties, his highest score is 175 runs not out which he scored in 2013 season. In the IPL 2018 player auction, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab at a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Chris Gayle made his T20 International (T20I) debut against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on February 16, 2006. He was the first batsman to score a T20 century, in the 2007 ICC World T20, and is the only player to score two centuries in World T20s. He holds the record for hitting the highest number of of sixes (105) in T20 Internationals. Gayle has amassed a total of 1,627 runs in the 58 matches he has played, at an average of 32.54 and a strike rate of 142.84, with two hundreds and 13 fifties.
Chris Gayle made his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on March 16, 2000. He is one of the four players who have scored two triple centuries at the Test level: 317 against South Africa in 2005, and 333 against Sri Lanka in 2010. In 103 matches played, he scored 7,215 runs at an average of 42.19, with 15 hundreds, 2 triple centuries, one double ton, and 37 fifties. In bowling, he has 73 wickets against his name at an average of 42.74, and two 5-wicket hauls.
