Giriraj Singh is the current Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. He is the Member of Parliament from Nawada parliamentary constituency in Bihar. He formerly served as Minister of Cooperative (2005-2010), Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Resource Development (2010-2013) in the Bihar government. He was removed from the Nitish Kumar government in 2013 following the split between the Janata Dal(U) and the Bharatiya Janata party.
An aggressive personality, Singh hit the headlines during the 2014 Lok Sabha campaign by declaring that those opposed to Modi could all move to Pakistan. He has been in the news for his controversial remarks on a range of issues rather than his policies during his time as an MP. In April 2016, he stated that the population should be controlled by ensuring that people of all religions have the same number of children in the family. In October 2016, he stoked up a controversy after urging Hindus to produce more children.
