Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is Shah Rukh Khan-co-owned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, based in Kolkata. KKR plays its home matches at the iconic Eden Gardens. But in IPL 2021, all the IPL teams will play their matches at neutral venues.
KKR owners
Juhi Chawla and others are also the owners of KKR. The official theme song of the team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re (we will perform, fight and win!). Although the team gained immense popularity due to its association with celebrity owners.
KKR IPL journey
Knight Riders performed pathetically in the first three seasons, thereby tarnishing its image. The team's performance, however, improved from the fourth season as it qualified for the IPL playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the IPL trophy in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
KKR in IPL 2018
In IPL 2018, KKR qualified for playoffs but its journey was halted by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kolkata Knight Riders failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2019 as it finished fifth on the points table after the league plase
KKR in IPL 2020
Ahead of IPL 2020 players’ auction, Kolkata Knight Riders has released some big players like Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa. While in the 2020 auctions, KKR has grabbed Australian pacer Pat Cummins for whopping Rs 15.5 crore. Thus, Cummins became costliest player of the season. Other notable addition in KKR squad are England world cup winning captain Eoin Morgan.
However, Cummins failed to make any contribution in IPL 2020 and yet again KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs. In the mid of the season, Dinesh Karthik resigned from the post of captain and thus Eoin Morgan took the position.

The franchise has also made changes in its coach, support staffs, bringing in former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum as head coach and former Australian player David Hussey as mentors.
