Rashid Khan is an Afghan cricketer, who bowls right arm leg break, bats right-handed and regarded as a handy batsman lower down the order. In March 2018, during the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, he captained Afghanistan for the first time in an ODI match and become youngest player, 19 years and 165 days, to captain an international side. He is part of almost all T20 leagues prominent among those are Caribbean Premier League, Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Afghanistan Premier League and, Pakistan Super League.
He made One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on October 18, 2015. In the ODI series against Ireland, he took his first five wicket haul. On June 9, 2017, he took his second ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7 wickets for 18 runs against the West Indies at Gros Islet. In January 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as the Associate Cricketer of the Year. He has taken 123 wickets in 56 matches at an average of 15.0, conceding over 3 runs per over with bowling figure of 7 for 18. He has 5 five-wicket hauls by his name.
In 2017 IPL players’ auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for Rs 4 crore. He made IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 5, 2017 and took two wickets conceding 36 runs. He was retained by SRH ahead of IPL 2018 players’ auction. Overall, in his 46 matches so far, he has taken 55 wickets at an average of 21.69 and an economy rate of 6.55.
He made T20 International debut against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports club in Bulawayo on October 26, 2015. On 10 March 2017, Khan took his maiden T20I five-wicket haul at the second T20I against Ireland. His figures of five wickets for three runs is the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricket in a T20I and the joint fourth-best figures in all T20Is. In 38 matches, he scalped 75 wickets at an average of 11.56, including two five-wicket haul.
He made Test debut against India at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 14, 2018.
