Sachin Pilot is a Congress politician and is currently the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan and also the president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. He is the son of Rajesh Pilot, who was a prominent Gurjar leader from Rajasthan and a minister in several Congress governments at the Centre.
Sachin became the youngest Member of Parliament when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Dausa in 2004, at the age of 26. In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Ajmer constituency. He handled the portfolio of corporate affairs in the Manmohan Sigh government in UPA II. However, he was defeated by Sanwarlal Jat of BJP by a big margin in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
After the Congress received a drubbing in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sachin was made the Rajasthan chief of the Congress and worked at the grassroots to revive the party. He was instrumental in the Congress' win in the 2018 Assembly elections in Rajasthan and was expected to be made Chief Minister of the state.
Sachin Pilot is perceived as someone who is both entrenched in grassroots politics and at the Centre. Overlooked for the top post in Rajasthan after the election, it was upon him to ensure the Congress flock remains together ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. How the party fares in the state's 25 seats would depend a lot on him.
