A Member of Parliament representing Bihar's Patna Sahib constituency in the Lok Sabha, Shatrughan Sinha recently quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined the Indian National Congress -- after a long phase of exchanging barbs with the Narendra Modi-led dispensation at the Centre and the BJP in general. In the earlier National Democratic Alliance government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sinha had held portfolios like shipping from January 30, 2003, to May 22, 2004; and health & family welfare from July 22, 2002, to January 29, 2003.
Previous to his stint as a Lok Sabha member, Sinha was a member of the Rajya Sabha for two terms from 2002 to 2008, representing Bihar.
In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Shatrughan Sinha, an actor-turned-politician, is set to contest again from Patna Sahib, against Union minister Ravi Shanka Prasad, who has been fielded from the seat by the BJP.
In January this year, Sinha attended a rally in Kolkata organised by All India Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee where he reportedly spoke against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led government at the Centre.
In February this year, when top Opposition leaders called for the ouster of Prime Minister Modi as they rallied in the national capital in a show of strength, Sinha was present at the rally.
