Ride-hailing app Uber on Tuesday said it has tied up with Refex Green Mobility to deploy 1,000 electric vehicles across key cities by 2026, furthering its efforts to boost electric vehicles on its platform. The collaboration aligns with Uber's global objective of providing 100 per cent emission-free rides by 2040, the company said in a statement. The deployment will see electric four-wheelers onboarded onto the Uber platform across Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, it added. Ride-hailing app Uber has launched its first water transport service in India, with a booking of a shikara at Dal Lake in Srinagar through its app, a senior company official said on Monday. The company introduced the first service of its kind in Asia. "Uber Shikara is our humble attempt to blend technology and tradition to give a seamless experience to travellers for their shikara ride. We are proud to create this iconic experience enhancing accessibility and uplifting tourism in the breathtaking landscape of Kashmir," Uber India and South Asia, President, Prabhjeet Singh said. An Uber spokesperson confirmed that Uber's water transport service in India is also the first in Asia. Uber offers water transport booking in some of the European countries including Venice in Italy. Various cyber security safeguards are in place to protect sensitive information and the location of Indian Air Force personnel and their families as part of an agreement recently signed between the IAF and Uber, the government has said. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said this in response to a query in Rajya Sabha on whether the government has assessed the "potential data privacy and security risks" arising from the MoU signed between the IAF and Uber for transportation services of IAF personnel, veterans, and their families. The MoU was entered into to provide efficient and safe mobility services for the welfare of personnel (serving as well as retired) and their families, the minister said in his response on November 25. The MoU and Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (MNDA) was signed on October 17, 2024, he said.
