Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti currently serves as the Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation the Modi government. Uma held various state-level and cabinet-level portfolios in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Tourism, Youth Affairs and Sports, and also in Coal and Mines in the Vajpayee government. After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, she was appointed as the Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, and held this office until September 2017.
She is a firebrand leader who rides on Hindu agenda. She shared centrestage with LK Advani and other BJP brass in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and eventual demolition of Babri Masjid. Volatile, she even quit BJP in protest and formed her own party, only to join again after meeting with little success in her own outfit.
