Speaking with industry leaders in a televised interaction on CNBC-TV18, Chief Economic Advisor, Krishnamurthy Subramanian said, "Economic Survey tabled in Parliament on Friday recommends countercyclical fiscal policy and "survey is clear that fiscal support should continue till we reach pre-Covid-19 levels." The CEA added that spends during recessionary times have a much higher multiplier effect on the economy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an all-party meeting today during which the government will put forth its legislative agenda for the Budget session of Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said today.

He said the meeting will be held virtually and an invitation has been extended to floor leaders of all parties.

Union home minister Amit Shah will address a rally in West Bengal today, and attend several programmes as the BJP steps up its campaign in the poll-bound state.

Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Friday night and is scheduled to start his public programmes today with a visit to ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness) in Mayapur and later address a rally at Thakurnagar. He will also address his party's social media volunteers in Kolkata in the evening.

UAE allows citizenship to distinguished professionals to attract talent

With the aim to attract talent, the United Arab Emirates on Saturday approved law amendments allowing citizenship to distinguished professionals including scientists, doctors, authors, according to PTI.


In a tweet, UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, "We adopted law amendments that allow granting the UAE citizenship to investors, specialized talents and professionals including scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, authors and their families. The new directives aim to attract talents that contribute to our development journey." He further said that the UAE Cabinet, local Emiri courts and executive councils will nominate those eligible for the citizenship under clear criteria set for each category.


"The law allows receivers of the UAE passport to keep their existing citizenship," he added. According to a report by official WAM news agency reported by PTI, the inventors seeking Emirati citizenship will need to obtain one or more patents approved by the UAE Ministry of Economy or any other reputable international body, besides a recommendation letter from the Economy Ministry.

"Sourav Ganguly, who underwent angioplasty at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata on January 28, 2021 has been examined by Dr Aftab Khan today. He is doing well and all his vital parameters are stable," said the medical bulletin.


On Friday, Ganguly was shifted to a private room from the critical care unit. On Thursday, Ganguly underwent a second round of angioplasty and two stents were inserted in coronary arteries. "The procedure was uneventful. Ganguly is stable and under close observation," said the medical bulletin on Thursday. The Woodlands Hospital had informed through a medical bulletin on Wednesday that Ganguly would be operated upon.

Mumbai Police on high alert following blast near Israel Embassy in Delhi

Security has been tightened in Mumbai at all locations including near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and Mumbai Police is on high alert following a low-intensity explosion that took place near the Israel Embassy in Delhi.
 
A low-intensity explosion took place near the Israel Embassy this evening. No injuries have been reported in the incident so far. Windscreens of several cars parked in the vicinity of the Embassy on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road were found damaged.
 
The explosion took place not far from Vijay Chowk, where several VVIPS including President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in attendance during the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony.

Israel Embassy blast: Two persons spotted in CCTV footage, police investigating involvement

A CCTV footage of the Israel Embassy blast site has revealed that a cab had dropped two persons near the embassy and it is yet to be ascertained whether these persons have any role in the explosion, according to Delhi Police sources.
 
The Delhi Police Special Cell has contacted the concerned cab driver and enquired about the two persons. Police are drawing out the pictures of the two persons on the basis of inputs gathered from the cab driver.
 
The police are on high alert following the Israel Embassy low-intensity blast and sources have confirmed that ammonium nitrate was used for the explosion. Sources have also said this blast may be a trial of some "bigger conspiracy".
