Parliament LIVE: Process of NRC to be carried out across India, says Shah

Parliament’s Winter Session continues. The Congress, in a meeting of its Lok Sabha members on Wednesday, decided to raise the issue of economic slowdown, detention of political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir and farmers distress in the lower house.

The meeting was chaired by Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The party on Wednesday raised the issue of withdrawal of SPG of its leaders in the upper house and issue of paddy procurement in the lower house.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is “normal” and that internet facilities will be restored at an appropriate time after inputs from local agencies. “We agree that mobile and internet are important facilities and needs to be restored soon. But when it comes to the safety of the country, we have to set a priority. As we all know, the situation in Kashmir remains tensed due to threats from across the border,” he said in Rajya Sabha.

2:52 PM IST BJP working president and Rajya Sabha MP, JP Nadda on Wednesday explained that the Home Ministry gives or withdraws security to a person based on the threat perception.   Nadda was replying to Congress MP Anand Sharma in Rajya Sabha who raised the issue of withdrawal of Special Protection Group (SPG) cover to party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.   "There is nothing political, security hasn't been withdrawn. Home Ministry has a very set pattern and there is a protocol. It is not done by a politician, it is done by Home Ministry and according to threat perception the security is given and withdrawn," Nadda said in Upper House.   "We urge the government that issues of security of our leaders have to be beyond partisan political considerations," Sharma said.

2:50 PM IST Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested in front of the Gandhi statue in the Parliament, demanding to bring a bill on the unauthorised colonies in this winter session.   The protest was led by AAP MP Sanjay Singh along with other party lawmakers including Bhagwant Mann who raised slogans against the Centre while holding placards in their hands.   Some of the placards read - "Bring bill on the unauthorised colonies and stop betraying public" and "allow registry of the houses constructed in unauthorised colonies."

2:49 PM IST Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said in Rajya Sabha that the government will restore Internet connection in Kashmir as soon as the local administration feels it is fit to do so.   Responding to a series of questions on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir during Question Hour, Shah also asserted that not a single person has died in police firing after August 5 when the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir was scrapped.     He also said all newspapers and TV channels are functioning in Kashmir and there is no decline in circulation of newspapers.

2:48 PM IST Twenty-nine districts of Maharashtra and 39 districts of Madhya Pradesh have been affected badly during the recent unprecedented rain and floods in the states, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday said in Lok Sabha.   According to it, as per memorandum submitted by the Maharashtra government, 29 districts of the state were affected by floods including Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Mumbai.     The ministry further informed Lok Sabha that Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have submitted a memorandum seeking an assistance of Rs 2110.62 crore and Rs 6621.28 crore respectively from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

2:48 PM IST A group of European parliamentarians who recently visited Kashmir were on a "private visit" to the country, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.   "The government of Jammu and Kashmir has reported that a group of 27 members of European Parliament (MEPs), who belonged to different political parties including ruling and opposition parties, paid a private visit to India from October 28, 2019 to November 1, 2019 at the invitation of International Institute for Nonaligned Studies, a Delhi based think tank," Union minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said in a written statement in Rajya Sabha.

Meetings were facilitated for them, as done previously on familiarization visits for visiting Members of Parliament of different countries. MEPs had expressed that they would like to visit Kashmir to understand how terrorism is affecting and has been a challenge for India. They got a sense of threat of terrorism and how it poses a threat to India especially in J&K. Such exchanges promote deeper people to people contact and ultimately feeds into the larger relationship, which any two countries would like to develop.

BJP working president and Rajya Sabha MP, JP Nadda on Wednesday explained that the Home Ministry gives or withdraws security to a person based on the threat perception.
 
Nadda was replying to Congress MP Anand Sharma in Rajya Sabha who raised the issue of withdrawal of Special Protection Group (SPG) cover to party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
