Republican Donald Trump becomes the 45th President of the United States. It was a neck and neck fight between him and his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton.

Trump has made it to the Oval office despite most polls and projections pointing to the contrary.

Trump is leading with 288 votes way above the 270 mark required to be the US president.

Clinton called Trump to concede the race and congratulated him.

This is for the first time that a person who has not served in the government or military is the president of the US.

Addressing his supporters in New York, Trump said, "It is time for us to come together. I pledge to every citizen that I will be President for all Americans.

"No dream is too big, no challenge too great. America will never settle for anything less than the best," Trump said.

Highlighting his vision for the US, Trump said, "We will embark on the project of national growth. We will create economic plans and double our growth."

Trump promised the US citizens that he will not let them down. "We will do a great job."
