Toss update: India win toss, decide to bat first
Kohli wakes up to Bottle Cap dare, Shastri spices it up
India skipper Virat Kohli has become the latest celebrity to take up the famous bottle cap challenge.
Late on Saturday, Kohli shared a video on his Twitter handle with a caption: "Better late than never, #BottleCapChallenge".
In the 15-second long video, Kohli can be seen holding his bat and keeping his eyes fixed on the bottle. With a clean swing of the bat, he then proceeds to open the cap of the bottle.
What makes the video dramatic is head coach Ravi Shastri's voice in the background -- commentary.
When the video starts, the pre-recorded Shastri commentary can be heard: "He's a got a wide range of shots, what is he doing to do."
As soon as Kohli removes the Bottle Cap, Shastri goes on to say: "Oh, what a shot that is, a flick of the wrist and way she goes, what a shot".
Virat Kohli just 19 runs away from breaking Javed Miandad's record
Virat Kohli would look to break Pakistan's Javed Miandad's 26-year-old record. Kohli is just 19 runs away from becoming the leading run-scorer against West Indies in ODIs and breaking Miandad's record.
Miandad has 1930 runs against Windies from 64 innings whereas Kohli has 1912 runs from 33 innings.
The 30-year-old Kohli managed to score 106 runs in the T20I series against Windies and he played a crucial 59 run knock in the final T20I.
I am flexible batting at any position, can't demand number spot: Iyer
Shreyas Iyer says he is "flexible" batting at any position as the Indian team management continues its search for a reliable number four batsman.
Iyer, who is part of the team touring the Caribbean islands, could be in competition with the likes of K L Rahul and Rishabh Pant over the next two ODIs against the West Indies.
"We have got no idea. It's totally the management's decision. I can't go and say that I want to bat at number four and they would put me in that spot. It's not like that," Iyer said when asked about the problematic position.
India could not find an answer to their number four conundrum through the World Cup and the search will continue in the remaining two games of the three-match ODI series.
"It's going to be a vacant spot and they are going to definitely try and give chances to all the players in that position. Currently, no one is convinced with that position," the player said at the pre-match press conference.
"Personally, I am not thinking about batting only at No.4. I want to be someone who is very flexible batting at any number or if you go into any situation you should be able to grab that opportunity and make the best use of it."
Hotel corridor turns into 22-yard strip for Pant, Kuldeep
After a washed out ODI in Guyana, both India and West Indies were looking to have a productive training session at the Queen's Park Oval, the venue of the second match of the three-game rubber to be played on Sunday.
However, rain gods had other plans on Saturday as they didn't allow the teams to get a glimpse of the conditions which would be on offer for the second ODI.
The Men in Blue were forced to train indoors with many even using the hotel corridor for practise.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant posted a video on his Instagram account where he along with Kuldeep Yadav can be seen playing cricket in the hotel corridor ahead of second ODI.
Kuldeep is seen bowling his left-arm spin in the hotel corridor and Pant, with his gloves on, keeps the turning ball. Pant shared this video saying, "Where? When? What? Who? No sorry I only know the "Why".
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India also posted a photo of Rohit Sharma under an umbrella with a bat in his hand.
"Just been that kind of a day. The Hitman finding some space for fun as he rushed indoors for practice in Trinidad," read the caption of the photo.
Having already won the T20I series, India will look to continue their dominance in the remaining two ODIs against the Jason Holder-led side.
Gayle on verge of overtaking Lara's record
West Indies opener Chris Gayle is on the verge of becoming the highest run-scorer for West Indies in one-day international (ODI) cricket. The 39-year-old needs just seven runs to go past former Windies skipper Brian Lara's record of 10,348 runs.
While Lara's tally came in 295 ODIs and included 19 centuries and 62 fifties, Gayle, who will play his 297th ODI for the West Indies on Sunday against India, has 10,342 runs with 25 hundreds and 53 half-centuries. He has also played three one-dayers for ICC World XI, scoring 55 runs.
Gayle is also the only West Indian to score a double century in one-day cricket, slamming 215 against Zimbabwe at the 2015 World Cup in Canberra.
India vs West Indies second ODI preview
After rain playing spoilsport in the first ODI of the three-game series in Guyana, India and West Indies have moved to the Queen's Park Oval for the second game and both teams will be looking to start on the attack after a washed out opening game. Interestingly, Chris Gayle has been ignored for the Test series, so this game and the last one at the same venue could be the last couple of times that one sees the legend take the field on the international stage.
For India, it will be about starting afresh after a disappointing loss in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. The batting looks solid at the top with Shikhar Dhawan coming back to join Rohit Sharma and skipper Virat Kohli will once again get to play freely at the no.3 position as he doesn't need to worry about building the innings as he had to during the showpiece event in England.
The middle-order kind of picks itself as the team didn't get to bat in the opening game. So while Shreyas Iyer should get another go after having made the XI in the first game, Rishabh Pant definitely will be playing the role of the finisher unless there is a top-order collapse. Kedar Jadhav is also set to get a game over Manish Pandey as was the case in the opening tie.
In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami looked mighty impressive as he gave away just 5 runs in the three overs that he bowled. But with young Khaleel Ahmed taking some stick from Evin Lewis, going from 27 from his three overs, it could be interesting to see if the Indian team management decides to give Navdeep Saini his ODI cap as he was pretty impressive in the T20I series.
Kuldeep Yadav should once again get the nod over Yuzvendra Chahal as he picked the lone wicket to fall on the day in Guyana - Chris Gayle. He will be supported by Ravindra Jadeja as the left-arm spinner can also wield the willow at the bottom end of the innings.
For West Indies, after the loss in the T20I series, it will all be about playing for pride as they are considered a better outfit in the limited-overs format. Also, with Gayle playing his last series for the Windies should add to the motivation factor for the hosts.
