Stock market highlights: Bulls roar at D-Street; Sensex jumps 1,000 pts; Nifty at 25,549; banks gain

Stock market highlights today, Thursday, June 26, 2025: Bulls roared on Dalal Street as the benchmark Indian equity indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, continued their northward march to settle with gains of over 1 per cent each on Thursday, June 26.
The BSE Sensex climbed 1,000.36 points, or 1.21 per cent, to close at 83,755.87. The index traded in the range of 83,812.09 to 82,816.26 during the day.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 settled at 25,549.00, higher by 304.25 points or 1.21 per cent. The index hit a day’s high of 25,565.30, while the intra-day low was recorded at 25,259.90. Shriram Finance, Jio Financial Services, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, and Hindalco Industries were the top gainers among Nifty50 constituents, rising in the range of 2.48 to 3.69 per cent. Conversely, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, State Bank of India (SBI), and Hero MotoCorp were the top laggards, ending lower in the range of 0.45 to 1.31 per cent.
Meanwhile, index heavyweight Reliance Industries settled higher by 1.91 per cent. The Mukesh Ambani-led company reclaimed its ₹20 trillion market capitalisation level today for the first time since September 27, 2024. At close, RIL's market cap stood at ₹20,23,510.63 crore on the NSE.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices settled lower by 0.59 per cent and 0.42 per cent, respectively.
In the sectoral space, Bank Nifty jumped 1.13 per cent to scale an intra-day high of 57,263.45, before ending at 57,206.70, up 1.03 per cent.
Barring Nifty Realty, IT, and Media, all other sectoral indices on the NSE ended with gains, with the Nifty Metal index outperforming others by settling 2.31 per cent higher. This was followed by Nifty Private Bank, Financial Services, and Oil & Gas indices, which ended higher by over 1 per cent each.
The market breadth remained positive as 1,474 out of 2,975 traded stocks on the NSE settled higher, while 1,397 ended in red, and 104 remained unchanged. The number of stocks hitting their 52-week high stood at 69, while it was 22 for the stocks slipping to their 52-week low levels. As many as 77 stocks hit their upper circuit limits, while 58 touched their lower circuits on the NSE on Thursday.
The fear index (India VIX), which gauges market volatility, cooled off by 2.87 per cent to settle at 12.59 points.
