Stock Market close highlights, Friday, June 13, 2025: Indian equity benchmark indices plunged on Friday, following Asian peers, after escalation in Israel-Iran conflict and a sharp surge in crude oil prices.
After hitting intraday low of 80,354.59, the Sensex settled at 81,118.60, down by 573.6 points or 07 per cent. The Nifty50 closed at 24,718.6 levels, down by 169.6 points or 0.68 per cent.
In the broader markets, Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 index settled in red, down by 0.24 per cent and 0.43 per cent, respectively.
However, the sectoral indices settled on a mixed note. The Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty FMCG emerged at top laggards, falling by over 1 per cent each. Among others Nifty Metal, Financial Services, Auto, Energy, Pharma, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas also closed lower.
Among the Sensex constituents, 26 out of 30 stocks settled lower. Adani Ports, ITC, IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank were the top losers down over 1 per cent each. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Sun Pharma and Maruti Suzuki were the only gainers.
The crude oil benchmark WTI Crude was trading at $73.87 per barrel, up 8.57 per cent following escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict.
Meanwhile, the fear index (India VIX), which gauges the volatility in the markets, rose 7.6 per cent to settle at 15.08 points.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Expert view
Stock Market LIVE Updates: Markets extended Thursday’s decline and ended lower, shedding over half a percent. Weak global cues led to a gap-down start for the Nifty; however, selective buying in heavyweights helped trim some of the losses as the session progressed. Eventually, the index settled at 24,718.60, down 0.68 per cent. Most sectors mirrored the overall trend, with FMCG and banking emerging as the top laggards. The broader indices also remained under pressure, losing nearly half a percent each.
The initial reaction was largely driven by a sharp rise in crude oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. However, a moderation in CPI inflation helped limit the downside. On the technical front, the Nifty slipped below its short-term moving average (20 DEMA) once again but witnessed a swift rebound after testing the lower end of the recent consolidation range (24,500–25,200). This suggests a possibility of continued consolidation in the index.
Given the prevailing scenario, traders should maintain a balanced approach with positions on both sides, focusing on stock selection driven by sectoral and thematic trends. It is advisable to avoid aggressive bets and manage risk prudently.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Market expert view
Stock Market LIVE Updates: Indian equity benchmarks experienced downward pressure, driven by weak global cues and foreign institutional outflows. Market sentiment was notably impacted by heightened geopolitical tensions following Israel’s military strike on Iran, which significantly increased risk aversion among investors. Although India’s CPI for May eased below the RBI’s comfort threshold—offering a positive macro signal—this was largely overshadowed by external headwinds. Brent crude prices climbed near $76/barrel, their highest this year, raising fears of inflation if tensions persist. Gold demand remains strong, reflecting a shift to safe-haven assets. In the near term, market sentiment is likely to stay cautious until geopolitical stability returns.
