Chennai Super Kings have defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets in their opening match of the IPL 2025 at the Chepauk stadium on March 23.
Rachin Ravindra scored the winning runs in what was a resilient fifty from him on the night that made sure CSk get the 2 points on the night. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's fifty was also crucial in the beginning in providing the hosts a platform for the chase.
Despite of a nervy spell in the middle where they lost 3 quick wickets courtesy of debutant Vignesh Puthur's spell for Mumbai, it was smooth sailing in the end as the modest 156-run total prooved to be a little less on the night.
Fans also got to witness MS Dhoni come in to bat, however he only faced 2 balls and couldn't get off the mark tonight.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians had set a 156-run target for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 as Deepak Chahar's 28-run cameo against his former team proved to be crucial for a respectable total on the night at Chepauk. While the 5-time winners MI lost Rohit Sharma on a duck, it was Tilak Verma who contributed well and helped give some momentum to the side. In the end, it was Deepak Chahar's 28-run cameo which brought his side to a 150+ total in their 20 overs. Noor Ahmed starred with the ball as he ended with a 4-fer. Khaleel Ahmed followed closely with a 3-fer as well on his debut spell for CSK.
